We are a 501c3 nonprofit based in Dripping Springs, Texas – just west of Austin. The Sawa Sawa Collection provides the women of rural Kenya direct access to the American fashion consumer. In this way, and through our education programs and direct assistance, our mission is to empower artisan women in Kenya to provide a sustainable, dignified living using skills passed down through generations. Their creations embody timeless technique with both traditional and modern design in the creation of beaded jewelry, woven wear, sculpture, basketry, bags, scarves, earrings, necklaces, and works of art.
Hand Woven Kiondo Bags
Sawa Sawa Collection bags are handwoven by tribal artisan women in Kenya using sisal fiber harvested from the sisal plant. They also use papyrus reeds and cotton to craft beach bags.
The artisans use high quality leather to seal the ends and the straps.
Each bags takes weeks to make. The art of weaving has been passed down through generations.
Each bag provides a sustainable living for an artisan and her family while helping preserve and continue ancient eco-friendly crafting skills.
