SAWA SAWA | MAASAI MARA ARTISANS

MAASAI MARA TRIP

The team is in Maasai Mara. We love the beauty of the people, their craftsmanship, their culture, kindness, love and how warmly they partner with us. At Sawa Sawa, a day in the Mara is a beautiful, blessed day. Not to mention the giraffes, zebras, antelopes, wildebeest, hyenas and more that pop by to say hi. Shop their craftsmanship HERE

Journey Through The Rift Valley

To get to the Mara from Nairobi. The journey is as beautiful as the destination. We stopped to take in some views, breath some fresh air and eat some local nyama choma. Read more in Maasai Mara Wiki

Day 1 in the Maasai Mara

We were welcomed warmly and with love. We broke bread together. Chatted away as we relaxed and kicked off the dust from our travels. Our host treated us like family and made sure we had everything we needed. The views were breathtaking!

The animals stopped by to see what all the fuss was about. Literally outside the front yard! How cool is that!

Other animals we saw in the Mara – The high season to see the animals is in mid year during the big migration. Seeing them in February makes it so much sweeter. Outside the door? C’mon! It can’t get any better than that. Even if they were delivering an Amazon package.

Artisans in The Mara

The Maasai women are known around the world for their exquisite beading and respect for nature. We are grateful for the partnership we have as Sawa Sawa that leads us to be in such beautiful places, with such talented artisans being useful and having a purpose to serve and bring their work to the global platform. We spent time with them working on new products and designs coming to you soon 🙂

It is rude to show up to a home empty handed. We brought food for the families and menstrual hygiene kits for the women and girls. We are grateful to everyone who has donated to our #EndperiodPoverty program. Girls miss a week of school every month and can’t keep up. This program brings them safety, dignity, privacy during their period and keeps them in school where they grow mentally, physically, psychologically and gives them more life choices.

Our love and kindness was reciprocated more than we could have imagined. Our goal was to solidify our friendship, partnership and build a rapport. The women gifted us Maasai shukas and beads to wear while there and to take home. When you live a life of service for others andtruly, genuinely give of yourself to others and for a better world, the world/universer/God gives ,
